Dance Science at Texas A&M

I am in the dance science program at Texas A&M University. “Dance science” simply means that in addition to dance technique and choreography courses, we take kinesiology classes and approach the art of dance with a holistic health mindset. Dancers may gain knowledge in injury prevention, nutrition, basic anatomy, biomechanics and the reasons why their bodies move the way they do from a teacher who understands these disciplines and their association with dance. This method essentially emphasizes a greater appreciation for a dancer’s health and wellness. Within the program, there is a Dance Science Student Committee that puts on a student-led symposium and produces a newsletter each semester. I have the privilege of serving on this committee and through my involvement, have learned a lot about organizing events, and writing for the dance community, both of which will come in handy in my future career as a dance educator. I have attached the most recent newsletter and a link to the TAMU Dance Program Facebook page, which has videos of some student’s presentations at the symposium! As always, feel free to reach out if you have any questions.
