September: What did you do with dance this summer and what are you looking forward to most this year?
This summer was filled with trips to see family as far as Hawaii and in Cape Cod too. That being said I didn’t get into a Dance studio as much as I would have liked. I did have some very interesting opportunities even still. At the start of summer I got a job at a corporate party as a back-up dancer. The funniest part of that job was that it involved wearing a pig head piece while dancing to “Brick House.” I think that is the strangest costume I have ever worn for a dance so far. I also worked at a children’s camp where we recreated Meghan Trainor’s “Lips are Movin” music video. My dog got to make an appearance in the video as well! The other experience with dance that I had this summer was volunteering at a Strutter Dance Clinic. It is always fun to spend a day with the Strutters, and I got to work with some great teenagers as well.
This year I am looking forward to going to Washington D.C. with the Texas State Strutters! We will be there during the very exciting time of the inauguration. The Strutters will perform at a Gala to celebrate the new president. I am very excited to be visiting one of my favorite cities once again and to be there to witness such a historic instance like an inauguration. As a Dance and History Education major it makes me very happy to have such a wonderful opportunity.
This year I am officially done with all my technique classes. Which makes me sad to say but I no longer have any dance classes to take. I am still thrilled to be taking the classes that I am in. This semester I am taking my first two education classes, Texas History, Dance Kinesiology, and Dance History. As a result of not having any dance classes to take this semester it makes me happy to still have Strutters, and also the Texas State improvisational group Transient Dance Collective. I am excited to kick high as a Strutter, and make some beautiful art with Transient.
