December: Kara Ko

If you could ask Santa for something (real or imaginary) that would make your dance life easier, what would it be?

Looking back from last year as a freshman in college, I felt like I was still in this mindset of “impressing others”. I would get nervous if I thought I didn’t fit into this mold of whatever. This semester was a huge stepping-stone. To me, I believe I have become a more knowledgeable and responsible human being. I have learned to say “no” even though my heart desired to it. I am dancing and choreographing to Kara’s style instead of trying to be someone else. I am gaining more information throughout my dance classes. I am finding new ways on how I can be a better teacher, new ways on how to become a creative choreographer, and new ways to move my body as an artist. Overall, this semester valued three things: growth, acceptance, and supportiveness.

Growth: being apart of the Undergrad Show as a choreographer brought myself to realize the growth I will embody during my four years at ASU.
Acceptance: having two teaching jobs as a dance instructor can be testing at times, so I accepted the fact that it takes time to build solid relationships with my students.
Supportiveness: Wow. This one is a huge one! The close friends I have made semester have been nothing but the greatest friends in the world!!!
